Serene Johnson

Executive Director


Serene Johnson is the Executive Director of the Asian Clean Fuels Association (ACFA), a non-profit trade association headquartered in Singapore and a member of the Singapore Business Federation. She leads ACFA’s regional advocacy, stakeholder engagement and strategic initiatives across Asia and the Middle East, working closely with other associations and technical experts in the public and private sectors to make advancements on fuel quality and vehicular emission standards. 


Prior to joining ACFA, she spent more than two decades in the petrochemicals industry, with extensive global business experience across the US, Asia and Europe. Her experience in energy transition and global transport regulations inspired her to join ACFA in 2025. Under her leadership, ACFA has continued to strengthen its regional advocacy efforts through technical workshops, stakeholder dialogues and participation in key regional platforms, including the Better Air Quality Conference (BAQ) and Asian Downstream Summit (ADS). She has also helped build awareness on the impact of fuel oxygenate choices on air quality and vehicle performance and the need to consider equitable transition in developing countries. 


Serene has represented industry on several international platforms, including IPIECA’s Fuels Products Working Group, WBCSD’s Transforming Urban Mobility programme and ICAO CAEP’s Alternative Fuels Task Force. She represents ACFA on the Asia-Tech Advisory Board. She is an accredited director with the Singapore Institute of Directors and is active in its Women Directors Chapter and the Chairperson of SMU’s Women’s Alumni. She is also an accredited Sustainability Leader by WBCSD/Yale University and holds executive qualifications from INSEAD and Singapore Management University.
