Managing Director,Head of Methanol


Since 1996, Mark has been an adviser to the global petrochemical industry, having worked with a broad array of clients, providing project support over a vast number of petrochemicals and petrochemical feedstocks, including condensates, naphtha, natural gas, coal, methanol and key derivatives, olefins and polyolefins, styrenics, rubbers, ethylene glycol, and polyesters. Mark has worked on projects that include strategic plan development, technical and market support for project finance, M&A support, and customized skills / training program development and execution. Mark designed, and continues to contribute to all of the multiclient services provided by MMSA. 


Mark began his career in 1985 with Shell Development Company in Houston, TX where he obtained several US and international patents in a business which manufactured specialty petrochemicals from butadiene and styrene. In 1990, he became a Market Development Manager for Shell Chemical Company, where he developed new uses for specialty polymers and developed new businesses. In 1996, he joined a US-based petrochemical consultancy called CMAI. He was the Managing Director of this company’s Asian operations after establishing its office in Singapore in 1998. In 2004, Mark founded Methanol Market Services Asia (MMSA) in Singapore. MMSA is the only global methanol consultancy headquartered in Asia, dedicated to solving the commercial and technical issues of its clients, and offering several multiclient products, including the world renowned Methanol and Derivatives Analysis and the China Methanol Monthly Analysis. Increasingly, the use of methanol in energy applications has broadened the firm’s expertise in gasoline, methanol to olefins, dimethyl ether, diesel, and biofuels markets across the world. 

Mark, with the assistance of the Singapore office, has helped organize the International Methanol Producer and Consumer Association Asian methanol conference for the past 10 years. Mark has presented to the World Methanol Conferences, IMPCA Asian (also organized by MMSA annually) and European Methanol Conferences, the World Petrochemical Conferences, and many other major industry events since 1997.
